Legal staff from AppalReD Legal Aid will be at Lincoln County Public Library at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 24th. Listen to a brief presentation on AppalReD Legal Aid's services and the type of legal issues we can help with.
Yesterday, a settlement was reached with the Social Security Administration that will allow about 500 of Conn’s former clients who lost their disability benefits to request a new hearing. Those who request hearings can ask to have their monthly benefits reinstated, and, if they win their hearing, could receive their “back” benefits.

Attorneys from Kentucky’s four civil legal aids released a video today to help people who are out of work understand changes to the unemployment insurance system that went into effect January 1.
Katina Miner, Advocacy Director at Kentucky Legal Aid, started the discussion saying these changes are not good news for people out of work. “That’s why we want to make sure people know how to get help.”
Expungement is how a record of criminal conviction is erased, destroyed or sealed from a state or federal record. An expungement order directs the court to treat the criminal conviction as if it had never occurred, essentially removing it from a defendant’s criminal record. Goodwill is focused on providing legal and financial assistance to participants because of the barriers an individual’s background can have on securing stable employment, housing and other basic needs.
Sign up today! Spots are limited.
Once you sign up Goodwill will reach out to confirm your spot and time. Prior to the in-person clinic, Goodwill will request your unofficial background records from the Administrative Office of the Court for the purpose of this expungement. A copy of your background will be provided to you when you walk-in, so you will be able to go over it with the AppalReD attorney to determine what is eligible for expungement.
