Executive Director Transition and Search
After eight years of dedicated work to further AppalReD Legal Aid’s mission of expanding equal access to justice and providing high quality legal assistance to low-income families, Rob Johns has announced that he will be departing from his role as Executive Director May 1, 2023. Johns will continue his service of low-income Kentuckians as he takes the helm of Legal Aid of The Bluegrass.
Over $8 Million in Grants to Fight the Opioid Epidemic in the Commonwealth
FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 27, 2023) – Attorney General Daniel Cameron today announced more than $8 million in grant funding to 24 opioid abatement programs in the Commonwealth. The grants will be awarded by the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission (KYOAAC) within the Attorney General’s office. The grants will assist Kentucky organizations in combating the opioid epidemic through prevention, treatment, or recovery services.

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Letcher Knott Leslie Perry (LKLP) Community Action is working to help those who work with different kinds of victims in the courtroom learn to navigate supporting their clients. “In dealing with people who are suffering from trauma, it’s a whole different ball game and you have to be prepared,” said Cassandra Combs, AppalRED Legal Aid staff attorney. “Because a lot of the times you don’t know what they’re going through.”
Recovery Central Celebration in Whitesburg
Recovery takes a village! That's actually one of the reasons AppalReD Legal Aid started Project Renew, which provides free legal help to people in recovery. Because people CAN and DO recover, especially when they receive community support. 
FEMA Appeal: Contractor Estimate Guide
Only estimate storm-related damages. Do NOT estimate deferred maintenance. Only estimate repairs to bring home to safe, sanitary, and livable condition. Estimate should NOT include repairs that bring the home to its pre-storm condition. Quote standard replacement items such as floor covering, walls/ceilings, fixtures, and appliances. List all line items with measurements, materials, labor, and work type (Ex. “Demo only”, “R&R”).
