AppalReD Legal Aid attorneys will be helping community members get a fresh start on June 20.
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - A legal services company and an attorney who operates out of Floyd County were recently recognized in Nashville, Tennessee for the roles they played in responding to the Eric C. Conn Social Security fraud crisis.
AppalReD Legal Aid and Ned Pillersdorf received the Nancy G. Shor Leadership Award at the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representative (NOSSCR) Conference last week.
Advocacy Director of AppalReD Evan Smith accepted the award on AppalReD Legal Aid’s behalf.

I have just returned from our Hazard office where three “new” attorneys have joined us. We are so fortunate to have the talent and expertise of this team serving the Hazard region. Devon Skeens has returned to AppalReD Legal Aid to serve as Directing Attorney, while Monica Rice-Smith and Emma Jones bring a combined 45 years of legal knowledge to the office.
In late April, Kentucky journalist Justin Hicks released two news pieces weeks in the making. Many eastern Kentucky flood survivors logged into the FEMA Portal to find their appeal closed with no decision. His investigation began with a simple question: is there a deadline for FEMA appeals?
Prestonsburg, KY - AppalReD Legal Aid received a $20,000 grant from the Kentucky Bar Foundation for their project "Expanding Access to Justice Through Pro Se Law Clinics." It was awarded at the Annual Fellows and Partners for Justice Society Luncheon in Covington, KY.
AppalReD Legal Aid will host 24 pro se family law clinics over the next year, in locations across the service area and virtually.
AppalReD Legal Aid and HEAL are hosting an expungement clinic on July 25 as part of the Recovery Central celebration in Whitesburg, KY. Use the QR code at the top of the flyer to register or visit HEALKY.ORG.
Please join AppalReD Legal Aid for our 21st annual Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse Awareness Conference on Friday, September 20th from 8:30 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. This year's conference will be livestreamed over Zoom.
Participants can earn free CEUs and CLEs.
