Responding to frustrations from impacted communities across the United States, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Friday that it is making sweeping changes so that more disaster victims get financial assistance faster and with fewer rules, red tape and delays.
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - Flood survivors impacted by the July 2022 flood only have a few days left to appeal their FEMA applications.
The deadline is currently set for 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 29.

The FEMA appeal deadline is Jan. 29 at 11:59 pm for July 2022 flood survivors. This deadline is critical, and as of today an extension has not been granted. Even if you have never appealed your decision, you may appeal by Monday at midnight to keep your application alive.

Margaret Sites, a staff attorney with AppleRed Legal Aid who specializes in housing cases and eviction defense, has tracked each of last year’s eviction filings through weekly court dockets.
667 evictions have been filed in Madison County Circuit Court in 2023. Data from the Legal Services Corporation’s Eviction Tracker shows that number is a yearly high dating back to 2016.
She says increasing rent prices are the biggest issue. But people are also losing eligibility for state assistance, especially after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
