Kentucky Law Protects
Kentucky Law (KRS 383.300) protects survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking who have protective orders AND entered into or renewed a lease on or after June 29, 2017.
In this video, we walk you through how to use an online tool created by Kentucky Equal Justice Center to create a letter and declaration for your landlord to protect yourself from eviction. There were 559 eviction filings in Madison County from Oct. 2021 to Oct. 2022, according to data from the Legal Services Corporation.
Those evictions equate to approximately 559 local people left in a potentially unstable or unsuitable housing situation.
Affordable housing experts say the situation may be worsening.

VAWA is a law that protects survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking from discrimination by certain federally funded housing providers. These protections apply even if you don't qualify for protection under Kentucky law (ie. do not have a protective order).
