    Expungement Self Help Guide

    Staff at expungement c

This Expungement Self Help Guide is designed for people who have met with an AppalReD lawyer at an expungement clinic and discussed their expungement eligibility but are not eligible for further services from AppalReD.

The information in the guide only applies to Kentucky state charges and cannot assist with federal charges or charges from
    other states.

Included with this guide are copies of the Administrative Office of the Courts’ (AOC) form for each type of expungement petition used in Kentucky courts as well as a copy of the AOC’s form for a motion to waive the filing fees that are normally required when you file an expungement petition. You can make copies of these documents or you can access additional fillable copies at the AOC’s Legal Forms page.

If you have not spoken to a lawyer about your expungement eligibility, you should do so before proceeding. If you are not able to talk to a lawyer or do not want to talk to a lawyer, you may evaluate your expungement eligibility using the Kentucky
Department of Public Advocacy’s Quick-Reference Guidebook.

If you are covered by Medicaid, your Medicaid provider may offer some assistance with expungement fees. A chart showing the assistance provided by each Medicaid provider is included with this packet.

If you think that you may be eligible for legal help from AppalReD Legal Aid, you can reach Central Intake at 1-866-277-5733 or fill out an online application

Expungement clinics are held at non-profits, community colleges, recovery centers, Goodwill Opportunity Centers, and court houses throughout AppalReD's service area. Clinics are generally announced on the website and Facebook. AppalReD is grateful for amazing community partners who support expungement!
