AppalReD offering free FEMA appeal clinics

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - AppalReD is offering free legal clinics for tornado and severe storm survivors.

The clinic will help those who feel they did not receive as much as they thought they would from FEMA.

Legal aid disaster response attorneys and pro bono legal volunteers will offer expert legal help for a successful FEMA appeal.

”We are all working together to keep survivors, you know, make sure they have hope. That’s been a really hard thing for a lot of folks to deal with after three disasters in a very short period,” Disaster Response Project Director, Whitney Bailey said.

“Disaster survivors don’t have to have an attorney to help them through that FEMA Appeal process,” she said. “You don’t have to be an attorney to submit a FEMA approved letter. The reason that it helps to contact a legal aid or even a volunteer attorney is to have someone shoulder that paperwork burden.”

Bailey said while it is not required, it is best to call ahead of time and also have documents ready to provide at the clinics. The number to reach them at is 1-844-478-0099.
