Want to know if your lawyer is in trouble? It just got easier in Kentucky

Looking for a lawyer? It is a little easier now to find out how long an attorney has been practicing and if he or she has ever gotten in serious trouble with the bar.

The Kentucky Bar Association this month started putting links to disciplinary orders on its online roster of the state’s 18,713 lawyers.

For the first time, the KBA also is listing the year each lawyer was admitted to practice.

The Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure has provided disciplinary records on doctors for at least 15 years, and still offers more information than the KBA, such as professional school, the year of graduation and area of practice.

The Indiana Roll of Attorneys has cited disciplinary case numbers since 2008 and added links to them in 2016, Kathryn Dolan, a spokeswoman for the Indiana Supreme Court.

KBA Executive Director John Meyers said it is continually making upgrades in its website and may add information such as email addresses in the future. He said the KBA decided to put disciplinary records and year of admission on its bar roster so the public can get that information without having to contact staff.  READ MORE
