One Week Left to Apply for FEMA Assistance for February 2025 Floods Application Deadline: May 25, 2025

Prestonsburg, Kentucky—Residents who were impacted by the February 2025 severe flooding have until Sunday, May 25, 2025, to apply for federal disaster assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Counties included in the disaster declaration include Breathitt, Clay, Estill, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Martin, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Simpson and Woodford counties.

The deadline to apply for federal assistance for these counties is May 25. If you or someone you know was affected by the February floods, don’t wait. Apply today to get the help you need to recover and rebuild.

Survivors of the April storms still have until June 25 to Apply.

People impacted by Friday's tornadoes must wait to apply for FEMA assistance until the disaster is declared.

Whitney Bailey, Disaster Response Team Project Director at AppalReD Legal Aid, emphasized the importance of meeting the deadline and staying persistent: “The most important step is getting your initial application submitted by the deadline, even if you’re still sorting out details. Once you’re in the system, you have options. If you’re denied or don’t receive what you think you deserve the first time, don’t give up—many people qualify on appeal. Help is available, but only if you take that first step.” Bailey explains that appeals will be ongoing after the deadline and that AppalReD Legal Aid can offer help with appeals.

Disaster survivors who need help with FEMA Appeals or disaster related legal issues should call AppalReD Legal Aid at 1-844-478-0099 or visit ardfky.org/disasterhub.
