New low-income transitional housing facility open in Floyd County

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Mountain Comprehensive Care Center opened a new low-income/transitional housing facility in Prestonsburg.

The Dogwood Apartments are located on South Lake Drive.

There are 20 apartments total,18 one bedroom and 2 that are two bedrooms.

Each apartment comes furnished with bedroom and living room furniture, kitchen appliances, and a washer and dryer.

Every apartment is energy efficient and fully handicapped accessible units are available.

The facility is designed to help people in need, such as those with chemical dependency seeking treatment, domestic violence survivors, those with a physical disability, or the homeless.

"People with mental illness often have trouble finding housing, people without jobs, so this way we can offer them housing and we can also offer them services to get back on their feet," said Julie Paxton, In-House Counsel for Mountain Comprehensive Care Center.

Officials are currently taking applications for the apartments.
