Attorney For Low IncomeTax Clinic

LITC Attorney

Appalachian Research and Defense Fund of Kentucky, Inc. (AppalReD Legal Aid) is recruiting an attorney for its Low Income Taxpayer Clinic Program (LITC). The location of the clinic is currently in Somerset, Ky . However, the clinic may be moving to Richmond, Ky.

This well-established legal services program is in its 38th year of serving low income clients and client groups in a 37-county area, which includes the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky and rolling hills of south central Kentucky. The successful candidate will serve clients in the 37-county region.

The attorney will assist eligible clients with all stages of tax controversies affecting low-income taxpayers, including direct legal representation, appeals and collections. The attorney will also coordinate LITC education and outreach activities. Proven commitment to legal assistance for the disadvantaged a plus. Minority candidates especially those bilingual in English-Spanish are urged to apply. Experience in handling tax controversies before the IRS required. Previous experience with an LITC clinic preferred. All attorneys receive an attractive salary and fringe benefits package including medical and pension benefits. Grant writing experience a plus, since position dependent upon renewal of grant funding.

Most of the office locations are in communities of 3,000 to 5,000 persons, except for Richmond and Somerset, which have populations of approximately 27,152 and 15,000 respectively. All offices are up-to-date with computer technology . Proven commitment to legal assistance for the disadvantaged a plus.
