Since 1998, Appalred  Legal Aid has become particularly active in housing development and home repair efforts here in Floyd County and neighboring counties.  With the assistance of a grant from the Kentucky Housing Association, Appalred Legal Aid  was able to employ a staff person to coordinate the work of volunteers who came to the county for home repair projects primarily in the summer.  In the summer of 1999 and 2000 we coordinated the work of over 1,000 volunteers whose repairs included 150 homes and 50 ramps for accessibility to homes.  This effort, known as Appalred Legal Aid's Low Income Housing Improvement Project then expanded to include other agencies as well as the Floyd County Fiscal Court, and lead to the organization of the new non-profit entity Low Income Housing of Eastern Kentucky, Inc. (L.I.N.K.S)
