FORECLOSURE DEFENSE ATTORNEY
Appalachian Research and Defense Fund of KY. (Appalred) is
seeking an experienced staff attorney who is committed to public
service, for its AppalRed Legal Aid Stop Foreclosure Project.
This position will address the severe foreclosure crisis in
Kentucky. The successful candidate will defend homeowners
against foreclosures and litigate cases involving home
improvement scams, predatory loans, unfair debt collection
practices, deceptive sales, and unlawful repossessions that pose
a threat to homeowners. The attorney will work with a team of
experienced consumer law and foreclosure defense advocates as
well as work on developing a strong statewide network focusing
on the foreclosure crisis. Appalred has 10 offices throughout
Eastern and South Central Kentucky which covers 37 counties.
Some travel and cross-jurisdictional representation is required.
The
ideal candidate will have previous experience with consumer law,
in general and experience defending foreclosures. A commitment
to public service and advocacy for low income persons; excellent
legal writing, research, and advocacy skills; ability to work
alone and with a team; and an attitude that foreclosure is not a
foregone conclusion is preferred.
