Unemployment
Ms. D was accused of fraudulently applying for Medicaid. She was fired from her job due to the
alleged fraud and her unemployment benefits were denied based on misconduct. She could not afford to
remain in her home so she and her children moved to her parents' house.

AppalReD challenged the personnel board and unemployment denial. The case was settled and the
unemployment claim was dismissed. She was restored to a similar job with retroactive pay and benefits.
Ultimately, she was able to afford to move back into her own home with her children.
Employment Rights
When workers rights are put in jeopardy,
legal assistance is often the only remedy.
AppalReD will help ensure that employees are treated lawfully by their
employers. In most cases, employers
cannot discriminate or treat people differently on the basis of age, race, sex,
or physical disability. AppalRed can
help clients make sure they are treated fairly.
