Mary was being physically abused by her husband. During their ten year marriage she had been hospitalized
three times. In one instance, he knocked her unconscious for not getting him a Diet Coke and broke her
finger when she put her feet on him on the the couch. With no where else to turn, she came to AppalRed and met with an
attorney and victim advocate.
Mary has left her husband and has not returned. With AppalRed's help she is moving on with her life. She now has
custody of her son and receives child support for him. Mary is taking the Board test to be an L.P.N. and working
part-time until she is licensed.
Domestic Violence
AppalReD can provide legal assistance to victims of domestic abuse, helping them obtain divorces, Domestic Violence Orders (DVOs)
or Emergency Protective Orders (EPOs) in order to get protection from dangerous situations. AppalReD also provides several self-help
documents which a client can fill out and file in court without a lawyer.
